DescriptionGlucosylceramide is synthesised enzymatically, by the glucosylceramide synthase-catalysed with the addition of a glucose residue to ceramide. They are present in neuronal and non-neuronal mammalian tissues and are found at low quantities in a large number of plant species, where they comprise 5-30% of total lipids in the plant plasma membrane, and in fungi.
